Two Thousand Dreams (Kings of Chaos Book 1)

£4.99

The Blood Witch Has Changed Everything.

Chen traveled to the US with his clan, hoping to rescue his kidnapped brother from the fae.

They just need a witch to find the exact location of where the door between the human world and the fae world will open.

The one thing Moon can’t do.

Chen grabbed the wrong type of witch.

That’s not stopping Moon from clinging to Chen as he guides them through a new territory, introducing them to the witches, shifters, and vampires who can help them.

The longer Moon remains at Chen’s side, the more he hopes the witch might consider staying with him always.

Except that the king of the fae might have other deadly plans for Chen.

Two Thousand Dreams is the first novel in the Kings of Chaos series, which is a spin-off from the Lords of Discord series. This book contains one very grumpy vampire falling in love with a very perky blood witch, shifters, overprotective witches, other non-human surprises, snark, angst, found family, brotherly bickering, magic, chaos, vampire cuddles, and an endless love that grows stronger with each kiss.

I just love it. There was no doubt that I would jump into the new vampire series and Moon and Chen didn’t disappoint at all.

It is a spin-off and you gain more understanding if you read the Lord of Discord and also Sky’s book How the Necromancer in the Golden Vest saved my Life. You learn about several characters coming up and their relationship with Moon especially.

The Zheng Clan is great, a group of bickering vampires, all togehter for a very long time and it feels like a family who know how to pushes everyone’s button. But it’s not complete, they arrived to rescue one of theirs who was abducted by the Fae.
But their search for a witch got them the wrong one – or the right one for Chen.

I love how Moon is trying to get Chen to loosen up, there is some insta-lust but over the time you can see how their chemistry and feelings are developing. Their love story is party light and fluffy but it also has some heavier undertones and consequences.

While this book has a HEA for Moon and Chen, it’s is again just the start of an overall story arch and a lot of the book is devoted to the world building.
I would have loved seeing a bit more of the Zhang Clan’s past.

I can’t wait for the next book.

Two Thousand Dreams is a fantastic start to this new series. I absolutely ADORED the Necromancer books so i was only too happy to read more about Moon and I was glad that Sky and co were in this book too. The characters are all fabulous and I’m extremely intrigued by Huli. I think this series is going to be epic and I can’t wait for the next book.

Thanks to GRR for my ARC of this book.

Premise: Being kidnapped might not be everyone’s thing, but when it happens to Moon Mullins, he’s mostly just surprised. What does a vampire want with him? Turns out, Chen needs a witch to help him locate where the fae are going to cross into our world. Moon might not be the witch for that job, but he’s sure he can help Chen with everything else.

Come for the… characters!! Drake’s work always shines in her characters, and Two Thousand Dreams is no exception. They’re interesting, fun, and for the number of them we meet, very well introduced here. Yes, we’re here for Moon and Chen’s relationship, but I love the interplay between the lot of them, especially Chen’s clanmates and the rest of Moon’s coven. Also! Yes, there are a bunch of books related to this, but I genuinely don’t think you need to read them to get everything out of this story – which I always prefer, because it can ofc be daunting to pick up a book and then realise there were a bunch more you maybe should’ve read already for things to make sense.

Stay for the… research. There’s a lot going on here, and clearly a lot of work went into making sure it’s accurate. I love the way Drake has managed to weave Chinese mythology into her previously very western vampire stories, and it’s a nice change to read. It adds a richness to the story that I really enjoyed.

Verdict: What a great start to a new series! I loved the Variks’ stories, and I’m excited to read more about the coven – and Chen’s clan – now. Adding the fae is a fun little twist that is obviously going to cause complications, and I can’t wait to find out all about that, too. Chen and Moon’s story is a strong beginning to what is promising to be another entertaining set of reads.

Absolutely adored this and can’t wait for the rest of the Kings of Chaos!

In Two Thousand Dreams, the small Zhang clan of ancient vampires from China move into the territory of the Variks clan (from the Lords of Discord series) in preparation for Moving Day, when the door to the Fae realm will once again open. They’re hoping to save their brother, captured by the Fae a century ago. But first, they need a witch to tell them where the door will open.

Enter blood witch Moon (a secondary character in the Masters of Mayhem/Necromancer series) who gets kinda rescued, kinda kidnapped by Chen Bo Cheng.

And so starts the story of a 2,000 year old grumpy vampire warrior falling in love for the first time.

“He’d even called him sexy. No one. No one in two thousand years had ever used that word to describe him.”

“Chen frowned at the witch’s back. “I am not adorable. I am a two-thousand-year-old vampire. There is nothing adorable about me.””

It’s got all the heart of the Varik books and all the chaos of the Necromancer books and I loved it!

    In this you’ll find:
    ✨MM romantasy/PNR
    ✨Grumpy Ancient Chinese Vampire Warrior
✨Perky Young Blood Witch in a chaotic all male mini coven
    ✨Forced proximity
    ✨Found family
    ✨Brotherly bickering
    ✨BL fans
    ✨Fox spirit
✨Battles against the fae + injuries
    ✨Being accosted when drunk
    ✨A HEA

This was a good start to a new series but as I read I realised it would have been better if I’d read the authors previous series Lords of discord first I knew it was a spinoff and though I was able to read it I felt I was missing information on some of the characters but that’s my fault and one I’m going to rectify by reading first series before I read book two of this one which I can’t wait for by the way, the story is good a bit instalove and lighter than what I expected but good nonetheless, the characters are good and I’m looking forward to what comes next and in the meantime I’m away to read authors other series.

I had a never ending smile when I was a reading this book. Moon made me crack up: he was a ball of sunshine who never ceased to amaze me. Chen was reserved and grumpy but he made me laugh with his snarky comments. These two were total opposites and perfect for each other.

Fantastic book! I’m eagerly looking forward to the next one which should be really good.
