As a non-disabled hearing person I found this book very interesting and a great insight into Deaf culture. I was interested to learn why people with hearing difficulties regard their impairment as a culture with its own language. If these sorts of things interest you, this is the book for you! I was also interested to see why and how Deaf culture differs from other perspectives of physical disability – and it does.

It’s not really the sort of book that you start at the beginning and work your way through to the end. I bought it because I’m starting university in the autumn and it’s one of the set texts.

Very interesting book about Deaf culture. Interesting and useful information about the education of Deaf children in the UK, with case studies/interviews of different generations of Deaf people and their experiences. A must for anyone studying sign language (BSL/ISL/ASL).

I hope this author Paddy should write some books about the history of Deaf Community or something like this.

A good way to learn about deaf culture. Needs concentration. It will amaze and horrify if you do not know anything about the deaf history.
