*****
Whether you are neurodivergent, suspect you might be, or want to be a better ally, UNMASKED will help you make sense of it all, and put the power in your hands.

Ellie was 24 when she learned she wasn’t broken. She wasn’t a bad person, she was neurodivergent. Her late diagnosis of ADHD and autism was like a lightbulb being switched on and she could finally start to heal from the trauma of being un-diagnosed and mis-understood for so long.

Since getting her diagnosis, Ellie has made it her mission to change the way we think about autism, ADHD and neurodivergence and in UNMASKED she shares what she has learned along her journey.

Written in a bite-sized style for whizzy brains like hers, Ellie shares chapters on mental health, pretty privilege, how to navigate the workplace and the importance of self-diagnosis so that we can all better understand and celebrate neurodivergence, and ultimately make the world a more inclusive place.

Everyone should read this book. It made me feel validated and seen, more than any other book or resource I’ve read so far. Having been diagnosed aged 24 as well, I totally related to Ellie (particularly about McDonalds!). I found the book to be kind, personal yet massively inclusive.

I’ve highlighted quotes from it that either make me feel seen or quotes I plan on using in my Masters assignment (Adult Autism). The statistics are really helpful, as well as the explanations around language. Even though I’m doing a masters around Autism, I learned so much through this book. I also love the term neurodiversity model – I feel amazed I’ve not come across this yet!

I feel society could learn so much from this book, and will be recommending it to every person I know – including my colleagues at work and family members. Having recently been told my “severe ADHD symptoms are, instead, profound childhood trauma”, I was worried that my autism diagnosis may be incorrect. This book not only reaffirmed that I am, in fact, autistic and the diagnosis is correct, but that I am completely valued as an individual.

Ellie, thank you for writing this book. I am so grateful to have read it.

I’ve just started reading this, and can already say that it is amazing. I was diagnosed with ADHD last year at age 22, and I also believe I am autistic. Unfortunately due to the lack of understanding on women with autism, I have been refused a diagnosis. So, I bought this book to try to understand myself a bit better and accept I am who I am. Thank you, Ellie. So much. ❤️

It was insightful and an easy read for someone who struggles to read this was nicely broken down and in manageable chunks for me to process.

It’s also good for family members or for others to read if they know someone recently diagnosed or suspected autistic or adhd.

It’s also important to note that the book is from the perspective of a low support needs autistic and doesn’t offer much insight of those with higher support needs however they’re well respected throughout the book

This book is SO WONDERFUL. It fills my heart with joy to know this book exists for all the people present and future who are discovering themselves. Even 7 years post discovery there’s so much I’m getting out of reading it, so it’s definitely a great read for absolutely all ND folks. And their families. And their friends. And their partners. And educators, therapists, doctors….. I could go on. Thank you for this Ellie, I can tell what a labour of love it is.

I read the book in 3 days. I couldn’t put it down. Well presented ,thorough step by step exploration of feelings, emotions and guided process of unravelling the journey of neurodiversity and discovering the authentic self. I was late diagnosed with adhd and autism in the last 2 years. The book has helped to fill the missing pieces. I have ordered a hard copy too. Friends and family will also benefit viewing what life is like from a neurodivergent perspective. It’s honest, raw, affirming. Thank you Ellie.

Knowing this book was going to be made and coming out gave me so much hope in my recent diagnosis of adhd, and currently awaiting diagnosis for Autism too and I am so glad this book exists. I am over half way through this book and I’ve had it for one day, this is unheard of for me no matter how excited I am, I cannot read books easily. The layout, the way each part is mentioned and quoted and when a theory is mentioned briefly you are ensured that it will be covered in more depth later: this makes me so happy.

With all of the layout and the way it’s written, I just can’t believe someone has written something that could be about me, I am so grateful. 10/10 recommend this to people who are just learning about their diagnosis(‘s) or wanting to understand about so many of the people living amongst them.

Bought this to support my recently diagnosed autistic teen who has PDA and recovered burnout. Lots of light bulb moments which have led me to believe both my son and I are ADHD. I haven’t heard of an ADHD coach before and I’m now going to look into this. Thank you Ellie for your honesty and validating account of how you have experienced growing up, something which helps me understand my sons experiences

As a late diagnosed autistic and adhd female aged 28. I brought this book with hope to feel less alone and to learn more about myself. There is no support post diagnosis via the NHS in my area. Ellie’s book went above and beyond my expectations. I haven’t read a complete book in 15 years but with how much consideration she’s put into the structure of the book it was a breeze. I’ve related to so much of her experiences growing up undiagnosed it brought me to tears at times with relief I wasn’t alone. I will be sharing this with family and friends in hope to keep spreading awareness and understanding from others. Thank you Ellie for finding the strength to advocate for so many of us in this lost generation.
