Take up your hook and with the expert guidance of crochet and amigurumi expert Sarah-Jane Hicks, recreate the wonderful world of Aardman Animations’ beloved twosome, Wallace & Gromit!

Taking inspiration from the short films A Grand Day Out, The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave and A Matter of Loaf and Death, crochet eight of the key characters from these ripping yarns; ‘props’ including the Cooker and Rocket from A Grand Day Out; and sheep from A Close Shave. You can also make the characters’ accessories and costumes!

These include: Gromit’s raincoat and sou’wester from The Wrong Trousers, Shaun the Sheep’s trademark woolly jumper (from A Close Shave), and master criminal Feathers McGraw’s ‘cunning disguise’…

Sarah-Jane Hicks introduces the key crochet techniques required to make up the characters, then features the patterns required with images of the finished works, all enhanced with stills from the films they appear in.

Featured characters include: Wallace, Gromit, Feathers McGraw, Shaun the Sheep, Wendolene Ramsbottom, Piella Bakewell, Preston the cyberdog and Fluffles the poodle.

Could there be a more adorable crochet book?

The answer is a simple NO!.

I loved this project book, it is so so fun and I defy any fan of Wallace & Gromit not to fall in love with all the creations Sarah-Jane Hicks has included.

The author has included so many pages of good advice, techniques and although she has used UK crochet terms she has given the US equivalent.

There are 12 fabulous characters to make and 17 projects in total, the hard part will be deciding which one to create first. I made Gromit ( on all fours). There is a pattern for him standing and to be honest I think I will making the whole set. They truly are a delight.

The instructions for each, are easy to follow. You will need an understanding of basic crochet, some small pieces are fiddly, but that said even a beginner will have so much joy making them, any hardship will soon be overlooked.

The parts of each charcter are crocheted separately, stuffed and stiched on to the main body. There are costume changes to crochet and littered throughout the book are pages of film takes. Wallace& Gromit Cracking Crochet is a visual rainbow of colour and inspiration.

Well what can I say. Finally I’ve managed to get my hands on the book because my husband, daughter and grandchilden were hogging it making theirs lists of what they want me to make for them. They were also admiring the amazing photography and Wallace and Gromit film stills that are throughout this glossy book.

Well Sarah Jane Hicks you have yet again produced some amazing characterful Crochet
Characters this time from the Aardman Wallace and Gromit films.

Your text and instructions are very easy to follow with amazing close up photography so you can’t go wrong producing these wonderful characters
There is a list at the start of the book which gives you an idea of what you need to create the characters. There are also useful stitches and techniques that will help you understand the symbols eg. (3TR CL).
Each project has a materials and Tools guide plus information on any special stitches you may need.
At the rear of the book there are terms for UK /US stitches and a full abbreviation list
I recon that a beginner with some basic knowledge of crochet and skills could easily follow this book and make some Crackingly great characters .

Love the book, love the patterns. I was so excited to get cracking!!
The patterns are fairly easy to follow for an intermediate crocheter and added conversion chart of uk terms into us is very helpful.
But if like me you sell what you make to allow you to buy more yarn and patterns, you will be disappointed. This book only allows the user to make each pattern for personal use or to give away free of charge as gifts. The only instance you are able to sell your creations is if the money is given to charity.
Just wish I had known this before purchasing.
    Lovely book tho!

Calling all Wallace and Grommit fans! Sarah-Jane has out done herself in transforming our favourite characters into crochet. As a fan of both crochet and the charming world of Wallace and Gromit, I was excited to dive into this book, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations.

So far I have made Shaun the Sheep and he has made me smile so much. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. I like how the characters are quite small so fairly quick to make and don’t require much yarn so I can make the characters using yarn from my stash. I would say that the patterns are accessible to crochet makers who have grasped the basics of crochet.

I appreciated the artwork from the films which are included in the book. They are a source of inspiration and provide a visual connection to the characters, adding depth to the book and are fun to look at while crocheting.

“Cracking Crochet” is a must-have for fans of both crochet and Wallace and Gromit. It’s a book that not only offers creative inspiration but also allows you to create your own pieces of nostalgia. I highly recommend it and I guarantee it will make you smile. Get your crochet hooks ready, and let the magic of Wallace and Gromit come to life in your hands with this wonderful book.
