My 2yr old daughter and I love this book. It introduces the idea of belonging and families in a very easy way with a simple sentence on each page ‘we belong together because you needed a home and we had one to give’ etc. As a single parent I was able to edit when reading exchanging ‘we’ for ‘I’ or ‘Mummy’ etc. It is bright and colourful with ‘friendly’ pictures. As the pictures are simple sketches it was no problem for my daughter and I decide the characters in the pictures were various other family members such as grandad, aunty etc – so the two parent pictures which can sometimes be difficult when there’s no Daddy in the family weren’t an issue.

I was unsure about this book when we got it but my daughter has always loved it and read it since she was 3. It is still regularly requested at bedtime and she has great fun pointing out which one of the pictures is her and which are us. Also as her ethnic background is different from ours the fun different colours of the characters are also good.
I would highly recommend it to anyone with adopted children.

I find the illustrations lovely and I think it’s a great book for toddler/little ones to ‘ezplain’ adoption even if the word itself is not even in the book.

This is a lovely book explaining adoption in child friendly language, giving benefits for children and adoptive parents alike. The illustrations are simple and bright, showing boys and girls, mums and dads, Ideal for reading with a child for pre-schoolers and as a starting point for discussion with slightly older children. Created by an American but it travelled well, and it really gets to the heart of the matter without being sentimental. I’d recommend it.

As others have said it does not mention the word adoption but I personally think it doesn’t need to. The wording is so simple but beautiful. When read to our 5 year old adopted daughter she absolutely loved it. When I read it through myself before reading it with our child it filled me with emotion. Lovely lovely book :)) Highly recommend.

My 2 year old adopted child loves this book. I am not sure how much they understand yet but it’s a great book to introduce the complex subject. It’s my (and my child’s) most favourite book. It’s very very well written for younger children and by far the best book on the topic.

A simple in the usual Todd style that families are all different. Adoption and diversity is portrayed positively and our 4 year old enjoys the colour of the pictures and clarity of the messages. Yes there could be more about families needing the child, but I still feel the simplicity and explanation of adoption from one angle is helpful. This is a book that compliments others in our collection and I’m glad I bought it.
