Praise for this book
“When I first read We Love You Hundreds and Thousands I was overwhelmed. Never had I read a book which spoke to contemporary adoption and permanent care so well. Through my networks of foster and adoptive parents I often hear of primarily school children struggling with telling their friends that they don’t live with their birth parents. These children see themselves as being just like all of the other children at school and they are proud of who they are. But their friends often don’t know how to react. This book speaks to those children. It speaks to their friends. It speaks to the parents of those friends. It is a book I love to read with my adoptive and biological children and a book I share with my family and friends who have connections with adoption or permanent care.” – Kelly – mum of Hope (age 6), Abigail (age 3) and Stevie (age 3)

I bought this book for Valentines Day for our 6 year old adopted daughter. The story is lovely and handles adoption in a loving and subtle way compared to other adoption story books I’ve purchased. The illustrations are beautiful and my daughter absolutely loved reading it together. My only issue is towards the end of the book the story says
“one day I wish my birth parents could come to my Party and we would all sing happy birthday together”
For us this is inappropriate and would set an unrealistic expectation for our daughter. I resolved this by sticking these two pages together with pritt stick! The story still flows fine but it would be better if the author considered that not all adoption families would want something like this in the story. This is the only reason I give it 4 stars as other than that it’s a wonderful book.

This is a wonderful, warm and sweet story! The mantra of loving someone “hundreds and thousands” is super sweet. Beautifully illustrated and a perfect story for adoptive families.
