Throughly enjoyable delve behind the scenes of Las Vegas, focusing on a sometimes bizarre range of characters. There’s a lot of humanity in this book and a surprising amount of humour. I’m not sure I share the authors’ evident reverence and enthusiasm for some of the excesses, but each to their own. The writing is fluid, journalistic, reminiscent of Shawn Levy; but I personally found the authors’ habit of shifting into the present tense to describe past events gimmicky and eventually irritating – hence only four stars not five.
