*The ideal gift to yourself in the middle of winter* Stylist’s Christmas gift books round up 2021
In just 5 weeks, you will come out of Your Mental Health Workout with a sharper mind, clearer-decision making skills and greater resilience.
Your Mental Health Workout™ provides you with exercises, tools, affirmations and expert guidance so you can start looking after your mental health for the long term. Zoë Aston, psychotherapist, the UK mental health expert at Headspace and mental health consultant to many high-profile individuals, has devised a ground-breaking 5-week schedule to help you build mental muscle; she incorporates 2 to 3 years of one-to-one therapy in one book. Our mental health is just like our physical health; we all have psychological weak spots or injuries and, just like physical injury, when they get used they may feel tender or uncomfortable. They need to be cared for in the right way so they can heal.
Zoë’s tried-and-tested workout plan, which helps to normalise the conversation around mental health, is split into weekly and daily sets. The weekly workouts help develop accountability, commitment to yourself and others and encourage physical exercise as a form of mood management. While your daily workouts move your focus inwards, providing space and time for you to look after the integrity of your mind through development of healthy self-talk. At the end of the book, there is a handy planner so you can easily track your progress.
By following Zoë’s plan you will become stronger, happier and can create the internal emotional landscape you want to live in.
‘I worked with Zoë for 6 months, prior to which I had always been quite sceptical about whether I would benefit from therapy. During that time she helped me to get to know myself, understand myself, and be kinder to myself.’ – Dr Zoë Williams
‘Zoë’s techniques are easy and give great results. Her work has given me wonderful insight into how I can look after my mind and makes mental wellness feel accessible to everyone. I highly recommend Your Mental Health Workout™ to anyone who has the desire to improve their emotional health.’ – Pixie Lott

Given to me as a birthday present I approached this rather colourful book with some trepidation.
But the easy to understand and simple techniques and suggestions have been very helpful to me at a time of turbulence in my private life.
I have incorporated them into my daily life and they work!
Delightfully written and easy to follow -this book would make an ideal Christmas present for any age.

I’ve really enjoyed reading this book. It’s easy to follow and it feels like I’m having 1-1 mental workouts with Zoe. I found it interesting to see how Zoe would analyse a situation using simple explanations. I would highly recommend this.

This book is a great resource and useful reminder that our mind needs as much love as our body when it comes to self care. Zoe helps normalise the conversation around mental health and makes you feel calm and in control. A great read!

As someone who has struggled to get any benefit from self development/mental health books in the past, I was skeptical at the beginning. However, I have been blown away by this book, I truly believe it has helped me. With use of the metaphor of an exercise routine, the books offers various ‘workouts’ which give easy to follow strategies and steps to improve your mental health. I found these were simple to exercise in my daily life and I have seen great improvements, particularly with my boundary setting since reading the book. The author is excellent at breaking down complex topics into a digestible format that is accessible to the reader.
I especially enjoyed the modifications for the workouts at the end of the book for specific needs (e.g. obsessions and compulsions, depression etc.). This was amazing for making sure the exercises could be tailored to my specific needs and were more impactful. It’s such a great addition to an already incredible book!
Overall, this is such an fantastic, easy to read book, that I highly recommend to anyone that wants to work on their mental health.

This book is a must have for everyone! It’s an amazingly simple and fuss free approach to improving your minds health without all the over complicated jargon! The writer is honest and vulnerable which allows you to immediately buy into her methods through sharing her own personal journey as she breaks down the misconceptions, laying the perfect foundations for the work ahead!

It was frustrating to read through 80 pages only to then read that the first of the weekly workouts is to go to therapy once a week.
The other concepts are interesting and well-worded, though being autistic I found the ‘social connection’ bits unhelpful.

This book is great! I’ve done a lot of my own therapy and like many others struggle to apply the things I learn in therapy to my life at times. The metaphor of a ‘workout’ really works for me and makes doing the ‘workouts’ much less depressing than when I thought I had to do these things because I wasn’t good enough.
Doing all the workouts at once felt a bit daunting to start with but I got the hang of it really quickly, helped by using the worksheets included. Would recommend.

A well written and to the point Mental Health step by step programme. It’s one of the most difficult subjects to provide advice and help for, but Zoe Aston has mastered it beautifully. Her own personal account is very moving and shows that she has the experience to pass on advice to others that not many professionals can offer. Everyone knows someone with mental health issues and this Workout is a great concept on how others may benefit by going through the paces it offers. Highly recommended.
