    by Rob, Dublin.

Very clear and concise. I went from total ignorance to having my page up and running. Far better than similar themed videos on you tube.

I don’t know what the other reviewers were reading but I didn’t like this book. You could quite easily fit the 369 pages into less than 100. It just seems to drone on and is a very boring, repetitive read.

The Youtube screenshots are out of date and in terms of microphones it talks about lapel mics, boom mics, but there is no mention of headsets or desk mics (which I guess is how the majority of Youtubers will start?).

I’m also not sure who this book is meant for? Here’s an example of a checklist for setting up the shoot; script (yeah fine), call sheet – list of your cast and crew’s arrival time on set (what?), cast and crew contact sheet (huh!), schedule (ok), storyboard, prop and costume list, cast breakdown. This is meant to be a dummies guide, not George Lucas’ set checklist.

It skips over parts I wanted to know about (like arranging a set for instance) and goes into too much detail in other areas (like f-stops for cameras lenses).

I didn’t get what I wanted from this book, its just a pity I can’t return it.

This book is very helpful if your starting out YouTube. The book has a kind of joke to it which was good.

It always feels a little wrong buying a ‘…for dummies’ title, almost as if you are declaring your total ignorance to the world. However, take the step and be glad you did as these books are always great value. Few imprints have managed to teach me so much, about so many different things, in such short order. YouTube Channels for Dummies is no exception and should be available on prescription to anyone who has got the YouTube disease. Especially those, like me, who has 30 years of knowledge to share on a subject and the equipment to use in creating videos to share it, but no real idea of how to go about making these videos in such a way that people will want to watch them – let alone creating a channel that can be monetized and a really engaged audience built. Which is where the dummies book comes in, I hope. Packed with information from people who know the subject matter inside out and backwards, it covers everything from the basics of channel creation through video production and search optimisation onto audience engagement and monetization. All presented, I might add, in a way that keeps the reader interested and never allowing them to drown in information without context. The proof of the pudding is in the reading, or something, so hopefully this time next year I can come back and boast about the YouTube journey I have made… Fingers crossed.

An easy read. You can get all this information on Youtube but it is handy to have it in book form that you can read anywhere.
