by Jayne N.
Bright, colourful pictures. Simple rhyming story of how Zog the dragon learns how to roar, fly, breathe fire etc. Repetitive rhyming parts so easy for young children to remember and join in. My 2 year old Grandson enjoys it

I’ve always enjoyed reading Julia Donaldson books to my children and purchased this to go with matching pyjamas for a gift.

This book has capture my toddler I imagination in record time and at 2.5 he asks for it everyday. It is a fuming story and so is excellent for young development and helps them to remember the words as they go along. As always with these books the illustrations are wonderful. I have B only positive things to say. It’s a bit longer than some of the other Julia Donaldson books and there is a sequel too which is ideal.

This story has all the hallmarks of Julia Donaldson, with a pleasing rhyming structure, repeating themes and detailed illustrations. I particularly love the classic ‘medieval dragon’ tropes that this story focuses on, and my daughter learnt to ask for ‘Zog’ soon after hearing the name a couple of times.
There are plenty of colourful things and details to look at on each page. I found that the woodland setting is similar to that of the gruffalo which probably felt familiar to my daughter too, and provides plenty of things to try and spot while reading on.
There at plenty of lessons to take from the story, including trying even if you don’t succeed first time round as well as being the person you want to be. All nice messages to grow up with.
The hardback version of this book feels high quality and sturdy enough to withstand a toddlers handling of it.
No faults to be had with this book. 5 star all round.

Zog tried his hardest every day to win a golden star.
His book won 5 of them with our little one

Nice story, lovely to read the kids before they sleep. But for the love of all that is holy why is the text so small, and often on a dark part of the page. We dim the lights a little for bedtime, and some parts really have me getting close to read it.
That said after the 20th time I largely know it by heart so not too bad. But the print designers should try reading this to kids in the evening themselves to understand
