The Iron Duke: Bobby Windsor – The Life and Times of a Working-Class Rugby Hero
Lions legend Bobby Windsor has enjoyed triumphs beyond the dreams of most international players but has also suffered personal tragedy. His rugby career as the best hooker in the British Isles during the second golden era of Welsh rugby in the 1970s is a turbulent tale of blood and thunder on the pitch. There are riotous incidents off the pitch, including unscheduled fights with professional boxers, revelations about illegal payments during the so-called amateur era and what Windsor did to upset the Establishment and become blackballed by one of the most famous clubs in the world.
Windsor’s irrepressible sense of humour comes shining through on every page, except when he gives chapter and verse on the personal crisis that drove him to plan suicide.
The Iron Duke is the no-holds-barred, warts-and-all story of a working-class Welsh folk hero who rose from humble beginnings to become a permanent member of the greatest Lions team in the history of rugby union.

The Tao of Islam: A Sourcebook on Gender Relationships in Islamic Thought
“This is a genuine foundational work in Islamic studies. It is an open door into the very heart of Islamic civilization, while at the same time it suggests the bases of important comparisons and insights for those interested in cognate areas in Western cultures.“It is a fascinating, truly original work in both its guiding perspectives and its comprehensive, clearly presented account of a central dimension of Islam. There is nothing like it, and it deserves a wide audience.” — James W. Morris, Oberlin College
“It clearly, competently, and comprehensively describes the worldview implicit in the medieval Islamic “wisdom” tradition represented by Sufism and Shi’i philosophy, particularly the way that gender concepts are implicit in their cosmology and psychology, and can be related to the Taoist concepts of yin and yang. The author’s critique of feminism and modern reformism on this basis is penetrating.” — Valerie Hoffman-Ladd, University of Illinois
The Tao of Islam is a rich and diverse anthology of Islamic teachings on the nature of the relationships between God and the world, the world and the human being, and the human being and God. Focusing on gender symbolism, Sachiko Murata shows that Muslim authors frequently analyze the divine reality and its connections with the cosmic and human domains with a view toward a complementarity or polarity of principles that is analogous to the Chinese idea of yin/yang.
Murata believes that the unity of Islamic thought is found, not so much in the ideas discussed, as in the types of relationships that are set up among realities. She pays particular attention to the views of various figures commonly known as “Sufis” and “philosophers,” since they approach these topics with a flexibility and subtlety not found in other schools of thought. She translates several hundred pages, most for the first time, from more than thirty important Muslims including the Ikhwan al-Safa’, Avicenna, and Ibn al-‘Arabi.

God in the ICU: Suddenly things happened that he never could have imagined
When an anaesthetist started praying with his patients in the Intensive Care Unit, suddenly his practice was transformed. As he relates his story in the context, first of a South Africa transitioning to democracy and then in the Middle East you will hear stories of a God who responds to prayer in ways that are uniquely His. This has the drama of hi-tech medicine, the poignancy of lives that are hanging in the balance, the human touch of a doctor who is trying to understand a God who does not always respond as he would like Him to and above all the inspiration and encouragement of a God who loves us enough to hear us when we pray and to be with us in our moments of deepest need.Read more

Medical Qigong Exercise Prescriptions: A Self-Healing Guide for Patients & Practitioners
Medical qigong is one of the four main branches of Chinese medicine, and it is the energetic foundation upon which the others (acupuncture, herbal medicine, and medical massage) are based. Medical qigong and tai chi exercises are becoming more popular, but there are few books that discuss how they can be used to help address specific disorders. This book is the first medical qigong book that does not simply introduce a set of exercises that are a part of a general qigong routine. Rather, the exercises provided are those prescribed to patients at qigong hospitals in China. Medical qigong doctors and Chinese medicine hospitals have used these exercises for hundreds of years and yet they are relatively unknown in this country. The first half of the book introduces medical qigong theory from a modern Western scientific perspective as well as from the traditional Daoist and Chinese medicine perspectives, so that the reader will understand why and how medical qigong exercises work. The second half is practical exercises for self-healing. The book introduces guidelines for selecting appropriate exercises, and then the exercises themselves. There are general tonification (strengthening), purgation (sedating), and regulation exercises for health maintenance, followed by sections on specific organ and health disorders. This book targets health care practitioners as well as “patients,” meaning anyone interested in taking an active role in the healing process.Read more

Medical Microbiology (Fundamentals of Biomedical Science)
Biomedical scientists are the foundation of modern healthcare, from cancer screening to diagnosing HIV, from blood transfusion for surgery to food poisoning and infection control. Medical Generalism, Now!: Reclaiming the Knowledge Work of Modern Practice
Medical Generalism, Now! is a unique and timely consideration of generalist medical practice. With a focus on the knowledge work of clinical practice and by taking a whole healthcare system view, the book responds to a recognized need to strengthen generalist practice within modern healthcare delivery in both primary and secondary care settings.
Through a series of creative provocations directed to consulting clinicians and their trainers/educators, service leaders and managers, and policy makers, readers are encouraged to challenge the orthodox view that generalism is an outdated ‘jack of all trades’ sub-set of clinical medicine delivering the ‘simpler’ aspects of medicine, with more complex issues requiring onward specialist referral. Case studies are used throughout to illustrate the challenges to be faced, accompanied by a description of the principles of generalist knowledge work needed to tackle the scenarios described and discussing the implications for practice and service redesign.
Essential reading for clinicians, managers and policy makers across all healthcare settings, the book concludes with a call to action, synthesizing the learning from each chapter to define and describe delivery of the key changes needed.

Clinical Specialties: Medical student revision guide
”This book is what I would have wished for in my medical student days”
From the Foreword by Stella Vig, National Clinical Director for Elective Care“I really like how the less important and more important information is highlighted with different colours. For someone like me who gets bogged down with detail, knowing what to learn first (important info) and what should be learned later (less important info) would be really useful in textbooks. Using the red for red flags and emergency points is eye-catching and makes it stand out. I have never seen the different colour boxes for differential diagnosis, risk factors/triggers and complications or prognosis and I really like this idea. It makes the information more visually appealing and means these concepts are differentiated from each other which is great for making flashcards etc. The overall layout is very clear, well spaced and it is a great revision guide.”
Pre-publication review from a 4th year medical student, Plymouth UniversityAll the core knowledge you need at medical school in one place!
Clinical Specialties: Medical Student Revision Guide contains the core information you need on: Community-based medicine; Geriatric medicine; Gynaecology; Obstetrics; Paediatrics; Psychiatry; Dermatology; Ear, nose and throat; Ophthalmology; Anaesthetics; Palliative care.

MMIs usually consist of 6-10 stations of independent assessments done in a timed circuit so that the same examiner evaluates a specific skill for a station among the candidates. Many of these stations assess a candidate’s soft skills, including critical thinking, problem solving, team working, leadership and professional attitudes in addition to their knowledge, skills and motivation towards choosing medicine as a career. MMIs are not just a test of a candidate’s knowledge or skills, but their ability to use it appropriately at the right time. Aristotle said, ‘we are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit’. Candidates wishing to succeed in medical MMI interviews need repetitive practice in the various stations. These stations usually include assessments on communication skills, medical ethics, recent medical facts, role play with an empathetic approach, data interpretation and calculations, scenario-based situations, personal character, motivation and judgment. This book will provide an excellent variety of opportunities to practice these stations and guide the candidate with a framework of answers. This book can be used for various medical university entrance exams, including those in the United Kingdom via the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), the United States via the American Medical College Application Service (AMCA), Canada via the respective Medical School Applications Service, Australia via the specific state Tertiary Admissions Centre and many other countries via their specific admission pathways.Read more

Survivor: The Shocking and Inspiring Story of a True Champion
Fatima Whitbread had the worst possible start in life. Abandoned as a baby, she spent much of her childhood in and out of children’s homes. A brief, disastrous stay with her birth mother saw her raped by her mother’s drunken boyfriend – while her mother held a knife to her throat to ‘quieten her down’. Fatima was only twelve at the time.
Athletics was her saviour: local athletics coach Margaret Whitbread took the young Fatima under her wing, eventually adopting her. Fatima competed in three Olympics, winning bronze at the 1984 Los Angeles Games. In 1986 she set a world record, and the following year in Rome became world champion and was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year. But then Fatima faded from the public eye, leaving many to wonder where she had gone.
After the cheering stopped, Fatima faced prejudice, penury, scandal and heartbreak. Survivor describes how she defeated all her demons to rise triumphantly from the ashes once again, this time as queen of the jungle. Almost 13 million people watched her on I’m a Celebrity, and after surviving 20 days in the Australian heat, she has millions of new fans eager to know more about Fatima the woman: the forthright, focused, slightly bossy, charismatic single mum who knows how to transform even the most devastating experiences into lessons in life. This is the unforgettable story of a true champion, who triumphed against the worst hardships imaginable.

‘As exciting as Rafa himself’ Woman’s Own
No tennis player since Andre Agassi has captivated the world like Rafael Nadal. He’s a rarity in today’s sporting arena – a true sportsman who chooses to let his raw talent, dedication and humility define him. With a remarkable 16 grand slam victories under his belt, and with friend and rival Roger Federer’s record haul of 20 in his sights, Nadal is an extraordinary competitor whose ferocity on court is made even more remarkable by his grace off it.
This book takes us to the heart of Nadal’s childhood, his growth as a player, and his incredible career. It includes memorable highs and lows, from victory in the 2008 Wimbledon final – a match that John McEnroe called the ‘greatest game of tennis ever played’ – to the injury problems that have frequently threatened his dominance of the sport, to becoming the youngest player of the open era to complete a career Grand Slam in 2010.
It transports us from Nadal’s lifelong home on the island of Majorca to the locker room of Centre Court as he describes in detail the pressures of competing in the greatest tournament in the world. It offers a glimpse behind the racquet to learn what really makes this intensely private person – who has never before talked about his home life – tick. F**ked My Way Up to the Top: The Complete Biography of Lana Del Rey Using Her Own Words
“If you are born an artist, you have no choice but to fight to stay an artist.” ― Lana Del Rey
With her latest album, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, Lana Del Rey has again proven herself as one of the most crucial and original female musicians of the 21st century. So let this celebrity biography reveal the full story of Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, largely told in Lana’s own words using hundreds of interviews and public statements.
We connect the dots between Del Rey’s humble Catholic school beginnings, her teenage troubles with alcoholism, and her earliest unknown recordings as May Jailer/Lizzy Grant. We explore how the ruthless streets of New York City and the noir of Los Angeles struck a chord of nostalgic romance in Lana’s creative mind, seeking retro Hollywood glamour at whatever cost, transforming into the multi-platinum “gangster Nancy Sinatra” superstar we love today. And we illustrate how the accusations of toxic femininity and a fabricated past could never compromise her vision; instead, the opposition provided even stronger material for her unique artistic dedication, selling millions of records across the globe.
More importantly, this book delves deep into her music, where Lana Del Rey has always felt the most comfortable sharing personal details. We document her hundreds of unreleased songs, her biggest hits (such as the viral sensation Video Games), her soundtrack contributions (The Great Gatsby, Maleficent, Big Eyes), and her collaboration work with The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, and Stevie Nicks. Furthermore, we passionately analyse each of her eight studio albums, including the critically acclaimed Born to Die, Ultraviolence, Honeymoon, and Norman F**king Rockwell!. In doing so, we present a commercially successful career that hides within the darker underbelly of the pop world, just like her cult following prefers it.
For dedicated fans only, here is everything there is to know about the real Lana Del Rey.

Blood on its hands?: The Church and LGBT Youth
Over half of young people between 18-24 in the UK currently identify as “not exclusively heterosexual.” Yet a sizable majority of Christian Churches in the UK, US and Australia still refuse to acknowledge the immutability of most LGBT identities or to engage with the lived realities of LGBT people. This apathy – and sometimes downright hostility – creates a toxic environment for some of our most vulnerable young people, leading to isolation, despair and sometimes, tragically, suicide. This poses the question, does the Church have blood on its hands?Blood on its Hands? should serve as a wake-up call to take LGBT identities and LGBT mental health seriously, to avoid some of the tragedies highlighted in this book. It is intended to be used as an aid to discussion in worship communities.
Dr Carol A Shepherd is a published academic and trade author, whose works include Bisexuality in the Western Christian Church (Palgrave) and Bi: the Way, Pastoring Bisexual Christians in Europe (EYP). Anthony Venn-Brown is the founder and CEO of Ambassadors & Bridge-Builders International (Australia). He is a much loved and globally renowned LGBT Christian ambassador and speaker.
